Albert Edward Childs was born in 1891 he was the son of Herbert a crane driver and Caroline Childs and the brother of Arthur James, Elizabeth, Gertrude, John and Hilda Childs. Herbert Childs was born in 1861 at Basford, Caroline Childs was born in 1863 at Winchester, they had 12 children sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 6 Routon Terrace, Salisbury Street, Radford, Nottingham. Herbert is 50 yrs and a crane driver , he is living with his wife Caroline, 48 yrs and 6 of their children, Albert Edward is 20 yrs and a coal miner hewer, it was stated on 1911 census that they had been married 30 yrs and had 12 children, 2 of whom died in infancy or early childhood. (it has not been possibly to find a marriage for Herbert to Caroline ) Albert Edward married Beatrice Hastings in 1911 at Nottingham, they lived at 40 Bloomsgrove Street, Radford, Nottingham, they had 2 sons Albert Edward born 29th September 1911 and Arthur born 29th May 1915. Commencing 25th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 8 pence a week.
In 191 he was a miner (hewer).

Lance Sergeant Albert Edward Childs enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 21st March 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras memorial
