Charles Douglas was born in 1899 and was the son of Harry a railway porter and Harriet Webster née Maltby and the step brother brother of Edith Harriet Maltby and Harry Maltby. Harry Webster was born in 1869 at Nottingham, Harriett Maltby was born in 1862 at Doddington, Lincolnshire, married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, Harriett brought two children to the marriage Ethel Harriett Maltby b1889 and Harry b1890 both were born in Nottingham. In 1911 the family lived at 52 Hollis Street Basford and later 5 Randall Street Hyson Green (both Nottingham).

Nottingham Evening Post Roll of Honour 5/6/1919: 'Webster. Missing March 21st 1918, now believed killed on that day, Pte. Charles Douglas Webster M.M., 5 Randall Street Hyson Green, late 52 Hollis Street Basford, after 3 years service, aged 19. The unknown grave is the bitterest blow. From his sorrowing mother, sister Edie and little Joey.'
