Arthur Edward Wilks was born in 1887 at Skegby he was the son of the late John a blacksmith and Annie Wilks née Atkinson of Skegby John was born in 1855 at Tipton, Staffordshire, he died in 1906 he was 51 yrs of age, Annie Atkinson was born in 1854 at Mansfield they were married prior to 1877 and went on to have 9 children. Arthur Edward married Alice Waldron in 1906 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they lived at 34 Prospect Place, Sutton in Ashfield and had the following children, John Thomas born 4th August 1907, Frank born 18th September 1911 and Charles Arthur born 20th September 1913. In 1911 the family were living at 34 Prospect Place, Sutton in Ashfield, Arthur is 24 yrs and is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Alice 27 yrs and their son John Thomas 3 yrs of age. Commencing 5th March 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence a week.
He was a coal miner hewer.

152nd Bde Royal Field Artillery
Gunner Arthur Edward Wilks enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he served with 'A' battery, 152nd Brigade, Royal Filed Artillery, he was killed in action on 11th August 1916 and is buried at Becourt Military Cemetery, Becordel-Belcourt, France.
