1st Bn Herbert Pride had served his time (12 years) with the King's Own Shropshire Light Infantry. He attested 28/8/1914 standing 5'6" tall and weighing 140lbs. He was described as 'muscular'. He was posted 30/8/1914 and went missing (later presumed killed) 12/11/1914.
Pride is not cited on the 1881, 1891,1901 or 1911 Censuses. His birth does not appear to have been registered. This record has been compiled from CWGC and surviving fragments of his ASR cross referenced with the Soldiers' Effects Register. Pride's address on enlistment is unknown. His mother was living on Edwin Street St Ann's by the end of the war so he has been included on the St Ann's Virtual Memorial.
