Brothers:Albert, born in 1881 at Nottingham and Harry, Born in 1883 in Nottingham. Sisters, Clara, born in 1892 in Nottingham and working as a lace hand and Louisa, born in 1895 at Nottingham. By 1891 Samuel was a widower, and in that year married Sarah Ann Rose of 9 North Street, Sneinton, Nottingham
Clarence Arthur Rose worked as a clerk in a foundry before becoming a book keeper in a lace warehouse.

Pte. Rose was called up and initially trained with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, No. 53675, bur he was later posted to 8th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. The battalion was involved in the continuing Battle Of Bullecourt when on 15/06/1917 they moved up to Lincoln Trench to assist in a renewed attack on the Hindenburg Line. It was a frontal assault which was very soon held up by uncut barbed wire and very heavy machine gun fire. No progress was made, but the casualties were high, including Pte. Rose who was killed in action. He was buried at Croisilles British Cemetery.
