George William Day was born in 1890 at Chesterfield he was the son of George Henry and Elizabeth Day née Chappell. George Henry was born in 1865 at Hasland, Derbyshire, Elizabeth Chappel was born in 1865 at Chesterfield, they were married on 28th September 1885 at St Mary's Church, Chesterfield, they went on to have 8 children, sadly three died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at Carholm Place, Leeds Road, Wakefield, George Henry Day is 45 yrs a coal miner he is living with his wife Elizabeth 45 yrs and 6 of their children including Wilie 21 yrs a coal miner. He was the husband of Mary Scholey whom he married in 1911 their marriage was recorded in the Wakefield registration district.

24th Bn (Tyneside Irish) Northumberland Fusiliers
Private George William Day enlisted at Wakefield he initially served with the service number 4150 in the King's own Yorkshire Light Infantry later transferring to the 24th Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 28th April 1917 and is buried at Bailleul Raod East Cemetery, St Laurent Blangy, France.
