George Edward Farmery was born in 1895 at Beverley and was the son of William a hall keeper in a Church of England mission and Ruth Alice of 6 Hunt Street, Blue Bell Hill, Nottingham, His father William was born in 1869 at Grimsby, his mother Ruth Alice was born in 1871 at Louth, they were married C1890 and had 6 children, 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children were Harold b1891, George b1896 Beverley, Sidney Ernest b1898 Malton, Doris b1900 Grimsby and George Wilfred b1904 Sleaford. In the 1911 census the family are living at 17 Coppice Road, Nottingham and are shown as William 42 yrs a hall keeper at a Church of England mission he is living with his wife Ruth Alice 40 yrs and their children, George 15 yrs an apprentice beef butcher, Sidney 13 yrs a scholar, Doris 11 yrs a scholar, Wilfred 7 yrs a scholar. His father sates he has been married for 21 yrs and has had 6 children, 2 of whom have died.
In the 1911 census he is an apprentice beef butcher.

11th Bn The Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own)
Rifleman George Edward Farmery enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 11th battalion Rifle Brigade. He was killed in action on 3rd September 1916 and is buried at Guillemont Road Cemetery.
His brother Sidney Farmery served in the Army Service Corps in the Great War, he enlisted on 11th October 1916 at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Kings Royal Rifle Corps he landed in France on 25th June 1917 and was discharged on 26th February 1919.
