Person Details
He was the second son of Samuel and Sarah Ann Walker. He was one of their four surviving children (Clarence, Frank, Stanley and Hilda); his parents had had two children who had not survived infancy. His father had been born in Lambley but later lived and worked in Nottingham. In 1891 when Frank was three years old he was living with his parents and two brothers Clarence Edward (6) and Stanley (1) at 2 Ashover Terrace, St Ann's. By 1901 the family had moved to 71 Manning Street, Sneinton, and the boys had a sister, Hilda (8). Ten years later he, his parents and two younger siblings, Stanley and Hilda, were living at 10A Manning Street. Clarence, who had married in 1908, was living with his wife, Sarah Elizabeth, and child, Constance Hilda, in Carlton. At the time of Frank's death he and his parents and two unmarried siblings were living at 69 Hunger Hill Road. Private Clarence Edward Walker, served in the Northumberland Fusiliers 24th (Tyneside Irish) and was killed on 28 April 1917, a month before Frank's death (Arras Memorial).

Royal Engineers Postal Section. He served in France from 26 September 1914. He is buried in Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension (grave ref III.A.15). He qualified for the 1914 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.

On May 30th 1917, Corporal Frank Walker REPS, second son of S and SA Walker, 69 Hunger Hill Road.’ Soldiers' Effects: His father, Samuel, was his legatee. Family grave/headstone, Lambley Cemetery, Nottinghamshire: 'In loving memory of Samuel beloved husband of Sarah Ann Walker, who died March 2nd 1930 aged 77 years. At rest. Also of the above Sarah Ann Walker who died April 18th 1931 aged 71 years. In the haven of rest. Also of Private Clarence E Walker, NF, killed April 28th 1917, aged 32 yrs. Also of Cpl Frank Walker REPS, died at Abbeville May 30th 1917 aged 29 years. Beloved sons of the above.'
