Joseph Harold Trueman was born in 1899 the son of Joseph a colliery manager and the late Caroline Ann Trueman née Farnsworth of Avondale Villas, Wharf Road, Pinxton. Joseph was born in 1857 at Ilkeston, Trueman and Caroline Ann Farnsworth was born in 1860 at Ilkeston she died in 1900 aged 40 yrs, married in 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they had 13 children, sadly 9 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Lilian b1893 and Vera b1896 both born at Ilkeston. In 1911 they lived on Wharf Road Pinxton. His father married his second wife Violet Ann Derbyshire on 29th June 1912.

2/5th Bn Leicestershire Regiment
Private Joseph Harold Trueman attested on 8th June 1916 and was placed into the reserves. He was called up for war on 14th April 1917 at Ilkeston, he was 18 yrs and 10 months and a wages clerk at a colliery. Posted to the Leicestershire Regiment he landed in France on 19th July 1917 and was killed in action on 26th September 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
