James William Sampson, enlisted in Australia on 20th January 1916, he was 22 yrs of age and a cook, he gave his religion as Church of England. He embarked from Sydney on board the HMAT Marathon on 4th May 1916. He served with “D” Company, 33rd Battalion Australian Imperial Force, he was killed in action on 7th June 1917. He is buried in Toronto Avenue Cemetery.
