Arthur Bamford born South Darley, Derbys in 1891. He was one of eight children, all born at South Darley to Alfred George and Fanny Dorothy Bamford. when Arthur started working, he became employed as a domestic gardener. At some time after 1911 he emigrated to Mackay, Australia. The father and mother later took over the Harvey Arms public house in Finningley. George emigrated to Australia

Arthur enlisted on 25th January 1916 at Rockhampton QLD. Enlistment address Mackay QLD. He embarked overseas ( left Australia) on 22nd Dec 1916 with the 49th Battalion, 8th reinforcements at Sydney, NSW on ship H.M.A.T. A64 "Demosthenes". He was killed in action on 8th August 1918 while serving with the 2nd Machine Gun Battalion at Corbie, France at the age of 28.
