He was the son of George and Mary Elizabeth Ford and the brother of Francis Roy Ford. In 1911 they lived at 1 The Pastures Stapleford Nottinghamshire. He was married to Elizabeth E Smedley in 1914 in Nottingham, after emigrating to Australia they lived at "Hobart," Stockton, New South Wales. She returned to live with her father post-war, at 7 Bilbie Street, Nottingham.
In 1911 he was a lace draughtsman.

Owen Clay Ford, served with the 2nd Australian General Hospital Staff, Australian Army Medical Corps. He died of cerebro-spinal meningitis at 14th Stationary Hospital, Boulogne. He is buried in Wimereux Communal Cemetery.
Obituary notices published 30th April 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “FORD. – On the 26th inst., Owen C. Ford, A.A.M.C., beloved husband of E. E. (Cissie) Ford, aged 28 years. “FORD. – On the 26th inst., Owen C. Ford, A.A.M.C., dearly-loved third son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Ford, Stapleford, aged 28 years.”
