Frank Elleray Armstrong

Son of Elleray & Jane Davidson Armstrong. Born Stretford Lancashire 1893 as Elleray Francis but known as Frank or Francis he lived at Stretford for his early years. He was educated at Elmswood College & Sale Grammar School. He moved to Canada in 1912 and settled down to business in Montreal. His parents remained in England coming to live at Eastmoor Drive, Carlton by 1913. Frank was one of five children although one sibling had died by 1911.

Employed as a warehouseman in Stretford prior to leaving for Canada.

Volunteered at the outbreak of war and enlisted 9 Nov 1914. Came over with the second contingent landing in England 7 March 1915, then to France on 1 May 1915. He was killed in action at Givenchy during an attack on the german lines 16 June 1915. He was originally buried near Givenchy and is now commemorated on the Vimy Memorial France.
