Person Details
Basford, Nottingham
He was the son of Thomas Price Gamble and Elizabeth Gamble of 10 Brushfield Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham (CWGC). Thomas Price Gamble and his wife married c.1883 and had five children; George Price, William Francis, Sarah Florence, Thomas/Tom and Emma Elizabeth. In 1891 Thomas and Elizabeth were living at 28 Gauntley Street, Hyson Green, and had three children, George (7 b. 1883), Sarah (5) and Francis (William Francis) (1). By 1901 they were at 95 Carlton Road; Thomas senior was a grocer. There were now five children: George, Sarah, William, Tom (8) and Emma (6). The family had moved again by the time of the next census in 1911 and were living at 15 Gawthorne Street, New Basford; Thomas senior's occupation was given as 'shop general dealer'. Only three children were in the household at the time of the census: Sarah (25), Thomas (18) and Emma (15). George had married c. 1905 and it is possible that William had emigrated to Canada by this time. William's younger brother, Private Tom (Thomas) Gamble, 10th Bn Sherwood Foresters, was killed on 15 May 1917 and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. William's parents died in 1937; Thomas on 11 June and his widow on 20 October; both were living at 33 Carlyle Road, West Bridgford at the time of their deaths. His older brother, George Price Gamble, married Agnes (c.1905), had several children and died in 1958 aged 74.
