There is an entry in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 2nd August 1916, which shows his photograph and tells us of his death. It also gives his address as 26 Front Street, Arnold, Nottingham and states that he was aged 19 years at the time of his death. He was born on 22nd August 1897 at Nottingham the son of John and Elizabeth Mackintosh. In the 1911 Cencus he is shown with his family living at Front Street, Arnold, he is shown as 14 yrs of age and a van boy and has 6 siblings .On the 18th March 1914 he embarks at Liverpool on board the ship 'Virginian' bound for St John, New Brunswick, Canada he is shown as Chas Mackintosh 17 yrs of age and a van man upon the ships passenger list.

At the outbreak of war he enlisted in the Canadian Infantry and while serving with the 15th Battalion (Central Ontario Regiment ) at Mount Sorrel in the Ypres Salient he is killed in action.
He is buried at Oosttaverne Wood Cemetery, Belgium
