He was the son of Richard and Elizabeth Mellson and the brother of Lucy Mellson. In 1901 they lived at 14 Marshall Terrace Briar Street Measdows Nottingham. He was the son of Richard Mellson who died in 1880. He was the husband of Mary (née Lievesley) Mellson and the father of Elsie Millicent Mellson. Mary later lived at 195 Rolleston Drive Park Road Nottingham.
He was a compositor.
