Fred Sharpe was born in North Leverton in 1891 the son of the late Robert an agricultural worker and Jane Sharpe née Dolman, of North Leverton, Retford. Robert was born in 1857 at Eagle, Lincolnshire, he died in 1905 aged 48 yrs, Jane Dolman was born in 1862 at Farndon, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Lincoln registration district, they went on to have 7 children. 7 children. On the 1891 census the family was living at West Brocks Cottage South Leverton. By the 1911 census the family are living at North Leverton, Jane 48 yrs is a widow and a dress maker, she is living with 5 of her children including Fred 10 yrs of age. Fred emigrated to Canada prior to the outbreak of the Great War as he enlisted in Canada and served with the Canadian Infantry.
He was a farmer upon enlitment.

Private Fred Sharpe enlisted on 5th August 1915 in Canada giving his age as 24 yrs and 9 months, he was a farmer his next of kin was his mother Jane of North Leverton, Notinghamshire. He served with the 78th battalion Canadian Infantry, he is buried in North Leverton (St Martin) churchyard.
Personal inscription on CWGC gravestone: 'Death divides but memory clings.'
