Alfred was the son of Arthur a licensed victualler and Mary Ann Tinsley (née Shipside ) He had 5 siblings, Ethel May, Archibald Henry, Grace Lilian, Kate Evelyn and Arthur Alwyne. In 1911 the family was living at the Midland Hoitel Stapleford where Alfred's father was the licensed victualler. Alfred and his brother Archibald Henry both emigrated to Canada and lived at Cadogan Alberta.
