Thomas Henry Wakefield known as Henry was the son of Henry Wakefield an assistant school master and his first wife the late Frances (Fanny) Wakefield née Shaw of 51 Noel Street Hyson Green Nottingham. Henry Wakefield was born in 1862 at Quedeley, Gloucester, Frances Shaw was born in 1861 at Nottingham, she died in 1906 aged 44 yrs, they were married in 1887 at Nottingham and had 5 children. Henry Wakefield went on to re marry to Rosa James born 1867 at Shropshire, they were married in 1909 at Nottingham. In 1911 the family were living at 441 Alfreton Road, Radford, Henry 49 yrs is an assistant school master he is living with his wife Rosa 43 yrs and his 3 children, Charles 18 yrs, Fred 15 yrs and Maggie 7 yrs Henry has left the family home in 1911 he is boarding at 6 Enfield Street, Radford, Nottingham, he is shown as being 23 yrs, singe, a carriage finisher and a boarder, he is boarding with William Chambers 64 yrs a shoe repairer. Henry later emigrates to Canada where he enlists into the Army at Smith Falls Ontario, at which time he is an engineer.

Private Henry Wakefield enlisted on 21st August 1915 at Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada, he was 27 yrs and 2 months old, he was an engineer, he was posted to the 4th Mounted Rifles Battalion and sailed from Quebec on 23rd October 1915. He landed at Le Harve on on 14th March 1916 and was killed in action on 2nd June 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
