Arthur Henry was the only child of John and Jane Eveson (née Hibberd). His father John was born in Strickly, Shropshire, in 1873. His mother Jane was born in Brailles, Warwickshire, in 1870 (bap. Brailles 1871), the daughter of Isaac and Mary Hibberd. Jane was one of about eleven children. The family was living in Brailles in 1871 but had moved to Skegby by 1881. John and Jane were married at Skegby St Andrew in 1898 and had one son, Arthur Henry b. 13 September 1898, baptised St Andrew 12 October 1898. In 1901 John, a coal miner hewer, and Jane were living on Stoneyford Lane, Skegby, with their son Arthur (2) and Jane's nephew, Frederick William Hibberd (1). By 1911 the family, including Jane's nephew Frederick (surname Eveson) were living on Fackley Road, Stanton Hill, Skegby. John and Jane continued to live in Skegby where they were recorded on the 1939 England & Wales Register. Jane died in 1944 and John in 1957.

2/6th (TF) Bn South Staffordshire Regiment. Arthur Henry served in France after 1915. He died on 11 April 1918 and is buried in Denain Communal Cemetery, France (grave ref. B71). He qualified for the British War Medal and Victory Medal. CWGC - History of Denain Communal Cemetery (extract): 'Denain was a German hospital centre during the greater part of the War ... The Communal Cemetery, was used by the Germans to bury their soldiers and (in 1917 and 1918) 153 British prisoners. A British plot was made at the South-East end, after the capture of the town; and after the Armistice the graves of the prisoners and other British graves were regrouped beside it.' (www.cwgc.org)
