He was the son of Charles and Ellen Barker and the brother of William, Ellen, James, Harry and Ada Barker. In 1911 they lived at 28 Crown Street, Blue Bell Hill Road and later at 45, Plantagenet Street (both St Ann's Nottingham).
In 1911 he was an iron fetler and a professional soldier by the oubreak of war.

9th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Thomas Barker arrived in France with 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters 4/11/1914 later transferring to 9th Battalion. He was killed in trenches near Ovillers.
