William Pavier was born in 1865. He married Eliza Jane Horton in 1888 in the Basford Registration District and they had fifteen children, nine surviving infancy - Percy b.1890 Bolsover, Albert b.1892 Bolsover, Mary b.1895 Mansfield, Sarah b.1897 Mansfield, James Thomas b.1901 Bulwell, George b.1903 Bulwell, Minnie b.1906 Bulwell, Eliza Jane b.1907 Bulwell and Frederick b.1908 Bulwell. In 1911, the family lived at 105, Merchant Street, Bulwell.
He was a miner (hewer).

13th Bn William Pavier enlisted at Nottingham on 7th December 1914, aged 48, joining the Supernumerary Company of the 7th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles). He was attached to the 29th Provisional Battalion on 12th October 1915 and transferred to 8th Company, Royal Defence Corps on 13th September 1916. Pavier was transferred to 3rd Protection Company on 17th March 1917 and, finally, to 13th Battalion on 2nd August 1917 before being discharged as no longer physically fit for service on 22nd March 1918 due to myalgia. He received a pension until he died.
