William Charles Collyer was born in 1878 in Stockton on Tees, Durham. He married his wife Annie Elizabeth Inns (born 18th December 1879) in 1897 in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire they went on to have 8 children sadly 5 died in infancy or early childhood their children were Dora born 1901 Nether Heyford and Hebert Thomas b 8th March 1905 Weedon, Northamptonshire and Emily Florence born 23rd January 1913. The lived at 6 Dixon Street, Radford. In the 1901 census the family are living at Nether Heyford, Northamptonshire William Charles is shown as being 24 yrs and a shoe maker, he is living with his wife Annie 21 yrs and their first child Dora 7 months. By the 1911 census the family are living at 27 Randal Terrace Hyson Green, Nottingham and are shown as William 33 yrs a boot maker , he is living with his wife Annie 31 yrs and their children Dora 10 yrs, Herbert 5 yrs Following his death his widow Annie Elizabeth was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week which commenced on 25th November 1918.

Private William Collyer enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with service number 16192 in the Northamptonshire Regiment later transferring to the 1st battalion Leinster Regiment. He died of wounds in Palestine and is buried in the Jerusalem War Cemetery, Israel. grave reference P 25.
