Arthur Danby

Arthur Danby was born in 1887 at Sneinton, his mother Jane Danby lived at 23 Albion Street, Nottingham. he had a brother Harry Danby. His mother remarried and became Mrs. Cook she lived at 59 Canal Street. Arthur Danby lived in Sneinton, Nottingham and worked as a hawker. He was single and had served a term of imprisonment for gambling offences 9army service record) In the 1911 census he was a lodger, lodging at 337 St Anns Well Road, Nottingham, he is 22 yrs of age and a pit top labourer

He joined the Notts & Derby Regiment Special Reserve at Chilwell Camp on June 14, 1908 and served for four years as a signaller. On 06/11/1912 he was re-engaged for a further four years. He was posted to 1st Battalion, Sherwood Foresters on27/01/1915 and took part in the Battle of Neuve Chapelle. On 15/03/1915 just after the conclusion of the battle he was taken down the line to 14th General Hospital at Wimereux with a gun shot wound to the chest. He died on 30/03/1915 and was buried at Wimereux Communal Cemetery.
