John William Sharman was born in 1888 at Nottingham and was the son of George a coal miner holer and Rosetta Sharman née Woods of 81 Miall Street, Radford. His father George was born in 1845 at Horncastle, Lincolnshire, his mother Rosetta Woods was born in 1852 at Leicester, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have the following children, Frances George b1887, John William b1888, Harold b1890, Florence b1892 and Wilfred Sharman b1896 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census they family lived at 81 Miall Street Radford Nottingham and were shown as George 66 yrs a coal miner holer, he is living with his wife Rosetta 57 yrs and their children, John William 23 yrs a milk seller, Harold 22 yrs a packing case maker, Florence a hair net cutter and Wilfred 15 yrs a grocery packer.
He was a milk seller.

Private John William Sharman enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Radford and served with the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 17th February 1917 and is buried at Warlincourt Halte British Cemetery Saulty
