George Harold Thorpe was born in 1884 at Nottingham, he married his wife Sarah Ann Cooper in Nottingham in 1905, they lived at 9 Cobden Street, Old Radford, Nottingham and had the following children, Hilda born 1906, George born 1908, William Ernest born 1911 and Alice born 1918 In the 1911 census the family are living at The Cottage, Balderton, Newark and are shown as George 26 yrs a cowman on a farm, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 25 yrs and their children, Hilda 5 yrs and George 3 yrs of age. Following his death his widow Sarah Ann was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 21st April 1919.
In 1911, he was a cowman on a farm.

Private George Harold Thorpe initially served with the service number 29773 in the Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 27th September 1918 whilst serving with the 4th battalion Royal Fusiliers having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Tois memorial, France, panel 3.
