Arthur Brassington was born in 1890 the son of John a coal miner and Annie Brassington née Miller of Forest Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. His father was born in 1859 in Sutton in Ashfield, his mother Annie Miller was born in 1856 and died in 1904 in Nottingham aged 47 yrs, they were married in in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield Registration District, they went on to have the following children all born in Sutton in Ashfield, John William 1887 Charles b1889, Arthur b1890 and Annie b1892. In the 1911 census the family are living at 14 Forest Street, Sutton in Ashfield and are shown as John 52 yrs a widow , coal miner , he is living with his children Arthur 21 yrs a blacksmiths striker and Annie 19 yrs , no occupation listed. Arthur married Mary Osbourne (born 25th December 1893 ) in 1916 their marriage was recorded in the Grimsby Registration District they lived at 26 Victor Street, Grimsby and had the following children, Arthur Frederick born 27th August 1916 and Annie Elizabeth 20th April 1918. Following his death his widow Mary Jane was awarded a pension of 27 shillings and 11 pence a week which commenced on 21st April 1919
He was a blacksmiths striker in 1911 .

3rd Bn Lincolnshire Regiment
Sergeant Arthur Brassington, enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, whilst residing at Grimsby, he initially served with the service number 13909 in the Leicestershire Regiment. He was serving with the 3rd Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, when he lost his life in the sinking of the R.M.S. Leinster in the Irish Sea on 10th October 1918. He is buried in Grangegorman Military Cemetery.
