William Robert was born in 1896 at Rugeley, Staffordshire the son of George a coal miner and Alice Harvey, née Barber of Bradley Cottages, Redhill, Nottingham. His father George was born in 1872 at Brereton, Staffordshire, his mother Alice Barber was born in 1873 at Rugeley, Staffordshire, they were married on 10th August 1891 at the Congregational church, Litchfield, they went on to have 9 children sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their children were, William Robert b1895, Frank b1899, Lilian Ladysmith b1900, Nellie b1902, Mary Ann b1904, Annie b1907 all were born in Rugeley, their final child Harry was born in 1909 at Arnold. In the 1911 Census the family are living at Ansell Terrace, Redhill and are shown as George 40 yrs a cola miner, he is living with his wife Alice 39 yrs and their children, William Robert 15 yrs a colliery pony driver (below ground) , Frank 12 yrs a scholar, Nellie 9 yrs a scholar, Mary Ann 7 yrs a scholar, Annie 4 yrs and Harry 2 yrs of age.
He was employed as a horse driver below ground at the local colliery

8th Bn Lincolnshire Regiment
Private William Robert Harvey enlisted at the recruiting office at Nottingham, into the Lincolnshire Regiment and after training was posted to their 8th battalion. He was killed in action on 3rd July 1916 during the third day of the battle of the Somme. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial on the Somme, France
