Jesse was the son of Jesse and Clara Reeves (née Saunders ). Jesse and Clara had eleven children; in addition to Jesse they were Harriet Elizabeth, Eliza Rebecca, Ethel, Mary Ellen, Elsie, Miriam, Hilda, Ivy, Agnes and Lydia. A further daughter Clara died in infancy. In 1911 the family lived at 87 Forest Street, Sutton in Ashfield. Jesse married Elsie Raynor at St Mary’s Parish Church, Sutton-in-Ashfield on 13th February 1915. John Simms and Mary Ellen Reeves were witnesses. They had one son William Ernest. Following his death Elsie married Michael P Flynn during 1917 and had a further five children.
He was a pit banksman above ground.

10th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
At the outbreak of WW1 he enlisted with the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) and after training left for France entering the Theatre of War on 29th July 1915. Jesse served in the trenches on the Ypres Salient, and at the Battle of the Somme, his last battle being at Delville Wood. On 6th August 1916 whilst acting as a stretcher bearer bringing in a wounded officer he was shot through the head by a sniper and died instantly. Thiepval memorial
