George Isaac Taylor was born in 1896 and was the son of George a coal miner hewer and the late Hannah Taylor nee Oscroft of 15 Akeds Yard, Mill Street, Sutton in Ashfield, George was born in 1839 at Woodborough, Nottingham, Hannah Oscroft was born in 1850 at Sutton in Ashfield, she died in 1903 aged 52 yrs, married in 1873 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they had 14 children, sadly 8 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 his widowed father George was living at 15 Akeds Yard, Mill Street, Sutton in Ashfield, he is 72 yrs and was a coal miner hewer, He is living with two of his children, Eliza Ann Taylor 38 yrs and George Taylor 15 yrs of age and is a labourer. At the time of his death his next of kin is shown as his sister Eliza Ann of 15 Akeds Yard, Mill Street, Sutton in Ashfield.

Private George Isaac Taylor, enlisted on 6th November 1915 at Sutton in Ashfield, he gave his age as 19 yrs and 330 days his address as 15 Akeds Yard, Mill Street, Sutton in Ashfield. He initially served with the Kings Royal Rifle Corps with service number 16317. He embarked from Southampton on 16th May 1916 and landed at Le Havre on 17th May 1916 and was serving with the 92nd Company Machine Gun Corps, when he was killed in action on 27th June 1916. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
