Frank Walters was born in 1897 at Selston and was the youngest son of Samuel a coal miner and Sarah Sophia Walters née Dawes of Middlebrook, Jacksdale His father Samuel was born in 1857 at Selston and his mother Sarah Sophia Dawes was born in 1859 also at Selston, they were married on 17th November 1877 at Selston and went on to have 14 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were , Mary Ann b1878, John William b1880, Arthur b1882, Frederick b1884, Thomas Harold b1886, Hannah b1888, Samuel b1889, Athlin Dawes b1891, Laura Kate b1894 and Frank Walters b1897 all were born in Selston. In the 1911 census the family are living at Middlebrook near Jacksdale Nottinghamshire and are shown as Samuel 54 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Sarah Sophia 52 yrs and their children, Arthur 29 yrs a coal miner hewer, Frederick 27 yrs a coal miner hewer, Thomas Harold 25 yrs a coal miner hewer, Samuel 22 yrs a coal miner hewer, Athlin Dawes 20 yrs a coal miner hewere, Laura Kate 17 yrs a shop assistant and Frank 14 yrs a shop assistant.

1st Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers
Private Frank Walters enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Jacksdale, he served with the 1st battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 26th September 1917.Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
