1891: Royal Marine Barracks, East Stonehouse, Devonport; 1901: Leading Stoker on HMS Rupert in Port Said, Egypt; 1911: Chief Stoker on HMS Express off Sheerness, Kent. Anne lived with her parents whilst William was on duty.
HMS Warrior was lost during the Battle of Jutland. She was heavily shelled, hit by at least 21 shells. She was being towed to safety but was abandoned and sank on the 1st of June 1916. William was probably killed during the attack on the 31st of May.
