Thomas was the son of Charles and Sarah Thrall. Wife: Alice née Hallam, married 1903. Children: Thomas born 1904, Mabel born 1906, Elizabeth born 1908, Annie born 1910 and Agnes born 1914. Lived at 4 Ladybrook Lane, Mansfield. His brother Charles also served; he survived the war.

Thomas Thrall had served previously in India and South Africa and had rejoined the army in January 1915. He died at home on 11 June 1915 while serving; he had not been deployed abroad since re-enlisting. Thomas was buried in Mansfield (Nottingham Road) Cemetery (grave ref. C. 17612).
Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser: 17 June 1915: Died of pneumonia whilst on leave, aged 45. "a fine specimen of manhood, tall and well built, capable of rending valiant service on behalf of his country".
