William Collingwood Plumbe was born in 1886 at Mansfield he was the son of William Alvey a letter press printer and Kate Plumbe née Stidson of Linden House, Mansfield. William Alvey was born in 1845 at Sutton in Ashfield, he died in 1911 aged 65 yrs, Kate Stidson was born in 1855 at Plymouth they were married in 1875 at Plymouth they had 10 children. In the 1911 census William is living with his widowed mother Kate 56 yrs at Linden House, Mansfield, William Collingwood is 24 yrs and is the manager of a chemical works William married Marion Cooper (born 28th January 1886) on 27th October 1911 at Mawdesley Street, Congretional church, Bolton, Lancashire they lived at Ashfield Avenue, Mansfield. they had the following children, Joan Cooper born 15th May 1913, Henrietta Collingwood born 30th November 1914. Barbara Howitt born 19th October 1917 William left £608 10s. 1d. to Marion in his will. His widow was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and pence a week commencing 19th May 1919.
Manager of Sherwood Chemical Works Co, and managing director of the family firm, Plumbe & Richardson. Attended Queen Elizabeth School 11/05/1895 to August 1903. He was the choir leader and Sunday School superintendent (morning) at Mansfield West Gate Congregational Church; he resigned in early 1917 as he had been called up.
