Harold William Slim was born in 1893 in Nottingham and was the son of William Herbert a lace finisher and his first wife the late Louisa Slim née Walker of The Elms, Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford. His father William was born in 1869 in Nottingham and his mother Louisa Walker was born in 1864 in Nottingham, they were married in Nottingham in 1890 and they had a further daughter Doris born 1895 in Nottingham. His mother died prior to 1902 when his father remarried. His father went on to re marry Gertrude Elizabeth Burton (b1878 Nottm) in 1902 at Nottingham and they went on to have a further two children , Lilian Violet b1903 West Bridgford and Herbert Clement born 1911 West Bridgford. In the 1911 census his family are living at The Elms Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford and are shown as William Herbert 42 yrs a lace finisher , he is living with his wife Gertrude Elizabeth 33 yrs and his children Doris May 16 yrs a milliners apprentice, Lilian Violet 8 yrs and Herbert Clement 2 moths, also living at the address is Eliza Ann Slim (Williams sister) 48 yrs and a housekeeper. In the same 1911 census we find Harold William shown as 17 yrs of age an apprentice, he is living at Messers Hitchcock Williams and Co 25 & 44 Paternoster Row, London , he is a drapery assistant.

13th Bn The King's (Liverpool Regiment)
Private Harold William Slim enlisted in Liverpool giving his place of birth as Bridgford Nottingham, he served with the 13th battalion the King's (Liverpool Regiment). He landed in France on 19th May 1915 and was killed in action on 8th October 1918, he is buried in Forenville Military Cemetery, Grave Reference: C 12
Death notice published 9th November 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “SLIM. – Killed in action October 8th, 1918, Harold W. Slim, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
