Herbert Brocklehurst (junior) was born in 1891 he was the son of Herbert Brocklehurst (senior) and Mary Brocklehurst née Homer of 17 Fletcher Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. Herbert Brocklehurst (senior) was born in 1871 Mary Homer was born in 1872 both were born in Chesterfield, they were married on 13th October 1890 at Newbold, they went on to have 13 children, sadly 5 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 108 Coke Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Herbert (senior) is 40 yrs and is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Mary 39 yrs and their children including Herbert (junior) 20 yrs a coal miner hewer.

10th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Herbert Brocklehurst enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Reginald, He served in Gallipoli during 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was later transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 9th July 1917, aged 27, whilst serving in the trenches on the Black Line near Arras. He is buried at Sunken Road Cemetery, Fampoux, France. Plot 1. Row B. Grave 11.
