Henry Arthur Glasby was born in 1885 at Barnsley, he was the son of Charles Glasby a labourer and Betsy Ann Glasby née Fenton. Charles Glasby was born in 1855 at Lound, Nottinghamshire, Betsy Ann Fenton was born in 1860 at Walkeringham, Nottinghamshire they had 4 children. In 1911 Henry Arthur has left the family home, he is living at 13 George Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, he is shown as being single 27 yrs and a coal miner hewer he is living with his future wife Annie Wigglesworth 17 yrs and her parents George Wigglesworth 46 yrs a coal miner and his family Henry Arthur married Ann Wigglesorth (born 17th June 1894 ) in 1913 at Mansfield they had a child born before wedlock, George Arthur Glasby born 1st July 1911 and a further child, Betsy Ann born 11th February 1914, they lived at 36 Leeming Lane, Mansfield. Commencing 7th June 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week His widow Ann married again in 1925 to Granville Waggott.

2nd Bn King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
Private Henry Arthur Glasby enlisted on 22nd May 1902 at Barnsley, he served with the 2nd battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He landed in France on 11th September 1914 . He was killed in action on 27th October 1914 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial.
