Walter John Murrell was born in 1894 he was the son of the late Walter John Murrell a soldier and Louisa Murrell née Onions of 5 Stone Street, Litchfield. Walter John Murrell was born in 1867 at Lichfield, he died in 1900 aged 33 yrs Louisa Onions was born in 1867 at Lichfield, they were married on 18th April 1892 at Lichfield, they had 4 children. In 1911 the family are living at 5 Stow Street, Lichfield Louisa 44 yrs is a widow and a charwoman, she is living with her 4 children including Walter John 17 yrs a gardener.

1st Bn The Prince of Wales's (North Staffordshire Regiment)
Private Walter John Murrell enlisted on 12th January 1915 at Mansfield, giving his age as 21 years and 216 days his occupation was that of a gardener. He served with the 1st battalion North Staffordshire Regiment. Landing in France on 20th June 1916 he was killed in action on 11th August 1916 and is buried at Peronne Road, Cemetery, Maricourt, France.
