Harry Neale was born in 1894 he was the son of Arthur a hosiery hand and Fanny Neale née Orton of 19 Manvers Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. Arthur was born in 1864 at Mansfield Woodhouse, Fanny Orton was born in 1864 at Mansfioeld. they were married in 1884 at Mansfield, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, In 1911 the family were living at 19 Manvers Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Arhtur is 49 yrs and a hosiery hand, he is living with his wife Fanny 49 yrs and their 6 of their children including Harry 17 yrs a hosiery hand. Harry married Lois Braithwaite, (born 12th April 1891,) in 1915 at Mansfield they lived at 39 Gladstone Street, Mansfield. Commencing 15th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 16 shillings and 3 pence a week.

16th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Sgt Harry Neale enlisted at Mansfield and went to France 14th December 1915. He was awarded the Military Medal, London Gazette 2nd November 1917, For gallantry and devotion to duty during operations in the St Julien Sector between 31st July and 5th August 1917. Killed in Action 20th September 1917, aged 24, during the attack on the German lines at Shrewsbury Forest near Zwarteleen (Hill 60), Belgium.
Military Medal Citation: For gallantry and devotion to duty during operations in the St Julien Sector between 31st July and 8th August 1917. London Gazette 02/11/1917. Killed in action on 20/09/1917 during an attack on German lines at Shrewsbury Forest near Zwarteleen. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
