Mansfield Woodhouse.
Arthur Graham Woodcock was born in 1891, he was baptised on 25th March 1891 at St Edmund's Church, Mansfield Woodhouse, he was the son of Samuel a collier tub repairer and Alice Woodcock née Morley of 10 Woodland Grove, Mansfield Woodhouse. Samuel was born in 1864, Alice Fanny Morley was born in 1865 both were born in Mansfield Woodhouse, they were married in 1887 at Mansfield Woodhouse and went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at 10 Woodland Grove, Mansfield, Samuel is 47 yrs and is a collier tub repairer, he is living with his wife Alice 46 yrs and 5 of their children including Arthur 20 yrs a clerk.

Private Arthur Graham Woodcock enlisted on 12th December 1915 giving his age as 24 yrs and 212 days, he was a coal miner he was posted to the reserves he was mobilised for war on 16th February 1916 He landed in France on 26th September 1916. He was killed in action on 1st July 1917 the first day of the battle of the Somme and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
