Evelyn Padgett was born in 1893 at South Normanton, he was baptised on 5th December 1893 at South Normanton and was the son of John as estate Joiner and Mary Padgett née Redford of Cotton Mill, Langwith. Both John and Evelyn worked on the Duke of Portland's Welbeck estate. His father John was born in 1870 at East Stoke, his mother Mary Redfern was born in 1866 at Elston they were married in 1891 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell registration district. They had the following children, Evelyn b1893 South Normanton, Alice Mary b1898 South Normanton, Edith Mary b1900 Alfreton, Rose Ethel b1903 Cuckney and Frances Elizabeth b1907 Langwith. In the 1911 census the family are living at Cotton Mill, Langwith and are shown as John 41 yrs an estate joiner, he is living with his wife Mary 45 yrs and their children, Evelyn 18 yrs an estate plumber, Alice Mary 13 yrs a scholar, Edith Mary 11 yrs a scholar, Rose Ethel 8 yrs and Frances Elizabeth 5 yrs old. Evelyn married his wife Elizabeth Lilian Binney on 12th March 1916 at St Pancras, Camden. they lived at 32 Warrington Street, St Pancras.

Lance Bombardier Evelyn Padgett enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at St Pancras, London, he served with 79th howitzer battery Royal Field Artillery, he died at Peshwar, India, his name is commemorated on the Delhi Memorial, India Gate.
