His father was born in 1849 at Bath and his mother Fanny Catherine Masters was born in 1853 at Westminster, London, they were married in 1873 at Bath and went on to have the following children, Louisa b1875 Westminster, Catherine b 1877 Westminster, Edith b1878 Westminster and Henry John b1883 at Wolverhampton Dora b1888 Wolverhampton and Mabel Winifred b1891 Wolverhampton. in the 1911 census the family are living at 34 Oaklands Road, Wolverhampton and are shown as Jabez 62 yrs a confidential commercial clerk, he is living wit his wife Fanny Catherine 58 yrs and their children, Dora 23 yrs a book keeper, and Mabel Winfred 20 yrs no occupation listed. In 1911 Henry John James had left the family home and is boarding at Holyoake Villas Balderton. He is living with Slade Sadler 39 yrs an engineers draughtsman and his wife Rose Sadler 48 yrs, he is shown as being Harry James 28 yrs an engineers draughtman.
In 1911 he was an engineer's draughtsman.

Second Lieutenant served with the 13th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was commissioned and served with the 24th battalion (Tyneside Irish ) Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 9th April 1917 and is buried at Roclincourt Military Cemetery Pas de Calais France Grave Reference: II A 11
