Charles Beeby was born in 1893 the son of Charles Beeby, a brewers labourer and the late Emma Beeby née Burnham of Abbott Street, Awsworth. His father Charles was born in 1863 in Beeston and his mother Emma Burnham was born in 1867 in Ruddington, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Beeston, Mable b1889, Charles b1894, John b1896 and Lucy b1899. His mother Emma died in 1906 in Nottingham she was 39 yrs of age. In 1911 he was boarding at Canal Row, Gilbrook, he is shown as Charles 18 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is boarding with Edwin Summers and his family

Private Charles Beeby enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Awsworth, he landed in France on 29th June 1915 and was killed in action, 16th September 1916, during the attack on the German positions at Guillemont, France, during the Battle of the Somme. Having no grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
