Richard Horace Inger

Richard Horace Inger was born in 1894 the son of John a coal miner hewer and Elizabeth Inger (nee Chambers), of Four Lanes End, Awsworth, Notts John Inger was born in 1867 at Awsworth, Elizabeth Chambers was born in 1870 also in Awsworth, married on 11th October 1890 at Awsworth they went on to have 9 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. Richard married Florence Annie Lane (born 1st September 1896) in 1917 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at 3, Station Road,, Ilkeston Junction, Notts. Commencing 5th May 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week. John Inger died 4 August 1952 (85) and Elizabeth on 29 April 1952. Richard was the grandson of David and Hannah Chambers.

He was a coal miner hewer.

Private Richard Horace Inger enlisted at Ilkeston and served with "D" Company 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters he was killed in action on 13th August 1918 and is buried in Montay-Neuvilly Road Cemetery (grave ref 2.A.5)

Family gravestone, Awsworth (St Peter) churchyard: '(David and Hannah Chambers) Also their beloved grandson, Pte. Richard Horace Inger, 10th Sherwood Foresters, killed in action, Oct 13th 1918, aged 24 years.' Richard's parents, John and Elizabeth Inger are also commemorated on the gravestone.
