He was the son of Walter and Elizabeth Plowright, who died in 1891, and the brother of Arthur Plowright. In 1901 they lived on Noel Street Kimberley Nottinghamshire along with Walter's second wife Harriet (née Shaw) and her son Wilfred. He was the husband of Margaret Annie (née Holmes) Plowright of 7 Studley Road and later 6 Franklin Road (both Harrogate). They married 17/6/1915.
In 1911 he was a club waiter at Nottingham County Court Bridlesmith Gate Nottingham and was working as a waiter in the Harrogate area upon enlistment.

He enlisted under Lord Derby's Scheme 12/12/1915 and was posted 9/11/916. He died at Connaught Hospital Aldershot from pneumonia and emphysema.
Buried in Harrogate (Stonefall) Cemetery Section 6E Grave 2200 Article published 20th January 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “PLOWRIGHT. – Died at Aldershot, of pneumonia, Gunner Harold Betts Plowright, waiter Hotel Majestic, Harrogate, late boots [sic] County Club, Nottingham. – Sorrowing grandma, aunties and uncles.” Above is courtesy of Jim Grundy and his facebook pages Small Town Great War Hucknall 1914-1918
