He was the son of Thomas and Mary Sweeney and the son of Annie, Bernard, Catherine, Winifred and Fred Sweeney. In 1911 they lived at 42, Nether Street and later 40, Regent Street (both Beeston Nottingham).
In 1911, he was a telephone apprentice.

2nd Bn Cheshire Regiment
Private Thomas Frederick Sweeney, 2nd Battalion Cheshire Regiment, was killed in action on 2nd October 1915. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Panels 49 & 50. The battalion was holding a position near the Hohenzollern Redoubt and the line was subjected to bombardment all that day.
