He was the husband of Jane (née Dessaur) West and the father of Amelia, Harold, John Henry, Joseph William and Clarissa West. In 1911 they lived at 73 Windsor Street Beeston Nottingham. Jane married James Cash in 1920 and they lived at 66 Horninglow Road North Burton on Trent.
In 1911 he was a plate layer (labourer).

16th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Sergeant Joseph William West, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 16th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Chatsworth Rifles), he was killed in action on 29th July 1917. He is buried in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, Grave Refernce: VII A 11
