George Derbyshire was born in 1887 at Openshaw, Lancashire. He married his wife Elizabeth (born 1888 Eastwood) C1908, they lived at Chewton Street Hill Top Eastwood Nottinghamshire they had the following children, Elizabeth Ellen b1908, Evelyn b1910 and George Edward b1913. In the 1911 census the family are living at Chewton Street, Eastwood and are shown as George Derbyshire 24 yrs a coal miner loader, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 23 yrs and their children Elizabeth 3 yrs and Evelyn 1 year old. Following his death his widow Elizabeth living at Chapel Street, Hill Top, Eastwood was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week which commenced on 19th November 1917.
He worked as a coal miner (loader) at Underwood Colliery.

7th Bn Leicestershire Regiment
Private George Derbyshire enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Eastwood. He served with the 7th battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He landed in France on 25th August 1915 and was killed in action on 1st May 1917. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial
