Dominic Roddy was born in 1884 at Greasley and was the son of Dominic a collier banksman and Mary Roddy née Jordan of 65 The Breach Eastwood Nottingham. His father Dominic was born in 1850 in County Mayo, Ireland, his mother Mary Jordan was born in 1851 also at County Mayo, they were married on 7th February 1876 at the Roman Catholic Chapel at Kilmovee Ireland, they had the following children, Mary b1877 County Mayo, Bridget b1878 Eastwood, Sarah b1881 Basford, Catherine b1883, Greasley, Dominic b1884 Greasley, John 1886 Greasley, Michael b1888 Greasley, Annie b1893 Greasley and Nellie b1901 at Greasley. In the 1911 census the family are living at 65 Breach Eastwood and are shown as Dominic 61 yrs a pit banksman, he is living with his wife Mary 60 yrs and their childen, Dominic 27 yrs a coal miner hewer, John 25 yrs a coal miner hewer, Michael 23 yrs a coal miner hewer, Annie 18 yrs helping at home and Nellie 9 yrs of age.
He was a miner at the coal face.

King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman Dominic Roddy enlisted on 7th September 1914 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 29 yrs and 11 months, his address was 65 Breach, Eastwood, his occupation was that of a collier and his next of kin was his father Dominic of the same address. He was posted to the King's Royal Rifles Corps and attended their Winchester barracks on 11th September 1914. He landed in France on 21st July 1915 and received a shell wound to his head and left shoulder on 17th February 1916. On 28th September 1916 he was returned to England and on 6th January January 1917 he was discharged from the Army as no longer fit for further active service due to tuberculosis of the lung. He died on 21st December 1918 and is buried at St Mary's Churchyard, Greasley.
