Neville was born in 1893 was the son of William an iron worker and Sarah Ann Barson née Swift of 14 Horace Ave, Stapleford. William was born 1852 in Beeston Mary Ann Swift was born 1854 in Syston, Leicestershire, they were married in 1873, which was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have 13 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were William b1875 Arthur b1877 and Florence Louisa b1879 all were born in Nottingham, their remaining children were all born in Stapleford Gertrude b1880 Minnie b1881 Lily b1884 Alfred b1885 Ernest b1887 Albert b1889 Neville b1893 and Louise b1895 . In 1911 the family are living at 14 Horace Ave, Stapleford, William 59 yrs unemployed, Sarah Ann 57 yrs and their children, Albert 22 yrs a lace draughtsman, Neville 18 yrs a lace hand shreader and Louise 16 yrs a lace drawer. He married Maggie Shipstone in 1917 in Shardlow and they lived at Shaftesbury Avenue Sandiacre Derbyshire.

1st Bn Leicestershire Regiment
Private Neville Barson, enlisted in Ilkeston he died of wounds on 23rd March 1918 and is buried in Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension
Two of his brothers also died during the Great War Private Ernest Barson also served and died in the Great War he enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters, , he died at 2nd Durham Voluntary Aid Hospital South Shields on 7th August 1915. His body was returned to his family in Nottingham and he is buried in Stapleford Cemetery. Private Alfred Barson enlisted in Long Eaton and served with the 1st battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He was killed in action on 19th September 1918 and is buried in Chappelle British Cemetery, Honlon Death notice published 13th April 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BARSON. – Died of wounds, March 24th, Pte.
